A Nature Based Business: Runach Arainn, Isle of Arran, Scotland

Using green practices from the start, our glamping site was designed around nature. Sustainability was incorporated into both the heart of the business itself and in all areas on site for our guests, so that we:

  1. Reduce our environmental impact
  2. Create a beautiful and relaxing natural site
  3. Offer amazing sustainable holidays without composing quality or luxury

From our wild flower and butterfly filled meadow and rare Arran Whitebeam trees, to the abundant food forest garden and bird song and red squirrel around site, we hope guests enjoy staying and engaging with nature here, confident that their holiday will not cost the earth,.

Lots of information is provided for guests who want more details on what we do and tours are available of our food forest garden.

Our green features on site include:

  1. Solar lighting
  2. Luxury waterless compost toilets
  3. Log burning stoves for heat and cooking, using local wood
  4. Electric Vehicle (EV) charging available (and we use EV’s)
  5. All green electricity used site wide
  6. Recycling and composting of all organic and green waste on site
  7. Sustainable product use including upcycled furniture, recycled plastic items and green cleaning products

Our business ethical focus includes:

  1. An active ethical purchasing policy including buying charity fair trade products
  2. Local community support and buying local
  3. Wider international charity support including tap twinning, beekeeping support and social and wildlife charity donations

We feel all businesses should help the wider community both socially and environmentally so that together we can make a positive difference.

Other activities on site include :

  1. Regenerative agriculture
  2. A large food forest garden
  3. Bee keeping
  4. Rare Arran Whitebeam trees
  5. Enhancing the wildlife environment with our meadow, woodland and hedging
  6. A willow den, wildlife rubbing trail and wildlife guides for kids
  7. Tours and educational information available for vistors
