At a time when sustainability and self-sufficiency are becoming increasingly significant, off-grid living is capturing the interest of many. The off-grid movement often mirrors historic lifestyles that relied on working with the natural world and in todays consumer-driven, many are returning to these simpler, more self-reliant ways of living. Off-grid living blends traditional wisdom with modern innovation, offering a sustainable and satisfying alternative to conventional lifestyles.

Of course, the off-grid life isn’t all about finding a cabin the woods and building an outside toilet. There is a diverse range of homes that are disconnected are self-sufficient . Not only does this this encompass remote cabins and repurposed containers but it also includes camper vans, bus conversions and overland lorries, yachts, barges and narrowboats and the list goes on.

The off-grid world is one of variety and imagination. While the core principles of eco-friendly and self-sufficient living remain the same, off-grid homes can be whatever  you choose to make them.

A Bit About The Creator of Homes Off Grid

I’m Charlotte, the founder of Homes Off Grid. Over the past five years, I’ve lived off-grid in various vehicles, enjoying the independence and adventure it offers. Before that, I spent months at a time backpacking and exploring different parts of the world. These experiences fuelled my fascination with different cultures and alternative lifestyles, I took a special interest in those living in close connection with the natural world, from nomadic communities living in tents to people learning how to farm and grow their own food.

Nowadays, I live in an off-grid, off-road, overland lorry with my partner. During the summer, we travel around the UK, working on other vehicles – handling everything from mechanical and engineering jobs to complete camper van conversions. In the winter, we explore new countries, constantly learning and discovering new people and places but it was while working on a customers vehicle that I had the idea for Homes Off Grid.

Founding Homes Off Grid

I created Homes Off Grid as a dedicated platform to connect buyers and sellers of off-grid properties, boats, or vehicles. The concept came to me while helping to build a living space on the back of a 40-year-old ex-military lorry in Shropshire. I realised there was a growing interest in this alternative lifestyle and a need for a dedicated platform to connect buyers and sellers of off-grid homes.

If you’ve ever looked at buying a house, you’ll know that there’s an infinite number of real estate websites available, but if you’re specifically looking for a home that’s off the grid you may have to hunt through hundreds of flats and unsuitable houses before you find a single property that might suit your needs. And for those interested in a mobile off-grid home, there are sites for campervans and expedition vehicles or narrowboats and yachts, but nothing that pulls the whole range together. With this in mind, I set out to create Homes Off Grid, a space where people could easily find or sell off-grid homes.

What’s On Offer?

Launched at the beginning of 2024, Homes Off Grid offers a streamlined platform for listing and searching for off-grid properties, boats and vehicles.
